Birds of Same Feather

In "New Vrindaban's Cataclysmic History," Rochana Prabhu writes: "It has not yet been pointed out in the current discussion that the other leaders in ISKCON, and in particular those who appointed themselves Zonal Acharyas, were in a mood of envy regarding Kirtanananda's position. In other words, they hankered to have the same kind of adoration and distinction, power and control over the devotees as Kirtanananda did. In fact, Kirtanananda was something of a template for the Zonal Acharya system. They all knew that Kirtanananda would never change his mood or position after Srila Prabhupada's departure, and therefore they had one of two choices: to become like him, or to take a humble position and be distinctly different from him, and have to deal with the fact that he wasn't ever going to do that.

As we know, they chose to be like Kirtanananda." One example in regard to the above point is Tamal Krishna Goswami, who bought a 1400 acre farm in Oklahoma around 1980 to become Jagat Guru and compete with Kirtanananda Swami.

The result was that Tamal Krishna Goswami destroyed the health and wealth of Chicago, St.

Louis, Dallas, and Houston Temples, and drove away many god brothers and many of his own disciples.

Secondly, in 1993 the North American GBC and Temple Presidents meeting was held in Dallas.

During this meeting, discussion took place about taking back New Vrindavan in ISKCON. I made the point that we should not rush until we are clear about the criminal aspects of New Vrindavan. Only Tamal Krishna understood my point and then he repeated it to the audience.

However, ISKCON leaders are more comforted with birds of the same feather.

In 1994, Radhanath and Nityoditya Swamis were in Vrindavan, India during the month of Kartika, and they were allowed to give lectures and were welcomed by ISKCON leaders. By the summer of 1994 or so, New Vrindavan was back in ISKCON.

Thirdly, Bombay Mid Day Meal Program is run by ISKCON Juhu Temple, not by Akshaya Patra of Bangalore Temple.

Fourth, after the Guru Reform of 1986 (it was no reform, it was a bribe extended to all ISKCON devotees to stop complaining about Zonal Acharyas and Prepare to Become Gurus, to enjoy the pie of ISKCON), persons like Tamal Krishna Goswami, Jayapataka Swami, Giriraj, Gopal Krishna Goswami, etc. started initiating anywhere and everywhere to become Jagat Gurus.

Before, they had only been able to do it in their zone. Now they were free to do it everywhere.

Plus no one would dare to go in their zone and initiate.

Then in the 1990s, Bhakti Charu, Indradyumna, Kavichandra, etc. became new crop of Jagat Gurus. Also, Tamal Krishna Goswami, Jayapataka Swami, etc. made sure that Gaur Govinda Swami did not go overseas and initiate, and kept him more or less confined to Bhubaneshwar while they roamed the world.

Basically, corrupt leaders have taken over ISKCON and they protect and promote corrupt people. It is that simple.
